MONTEVENTO’S KENNEL
Montevento Kennel is the most historic of existing breedings in Italy
The Montevento Kennel is the most historic of existing breedings in Italy for the Bernese mountain dog and among the most historic for the newfoundland dog breed.
It all began in 1987: After a few years of selection, started at the same time for both races, some exhibitions and numerous trips abroad in search of nice lines to be introduced, in 1993 the kennel has received recognition by ENCI (Ente Nazionale Cinofilia Italiana) and from the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale).
The selection of the dog breed Newfoundland has been done solely on American and Canadian lines, and there have been numerous exchanges with overseas breeders, with the aim of obtaining typicality.
We always aimed at the selection of Black/White line; In 2013 Montevento,s Tiepolo, a Black/White Newfoundland, won the prestigious British dog show Crufts, qualifying as Best Puppy.
The first subjects of the breed Bernese Mountain Dog were of Swiss lines, but soon, to avoid being entangled in excessive inbreeding, we introduced lines from Northern Europe.
In 1993 Uscka, a beautiful, strong female from the Netherlands, joined the breeding, and in just three months became Italian champion.
Uscka is the ancestor of all the subjects of our breeding.
In 2000 the first book about the breed Bernese Mountain Dog was published and all the dogs photographed and featured in the book belonged to the Montevento kennel (except for the last dog on the last page). (Author: Mr. Filippo Cattaneo, Title: Il Bovaro del bernese, Publishing house: De Vecchi)
After decades of activity, Montevento kennel still selects with passion the Bernese Mountain Dog breed and The Newfoundland dog breed, always trying to get beautiful, typical and healthy dogs.
When it comes to selection, of course, we also consider health, admitting only those candidates who have passed a series of official health checks.
